Study Shows the Link Between Collaboration & Growth
Study Shows the Link Between Collaboration & Growth:
The InnovationExcellence website reported that a recent study by Andy Cosh and Joanne Jin Zhang of the UK Innovation Research centre set out to examine how companies were using open innovation. The report makes a thought-provoking comparison of the innovation styles of companies. It indicates that those companies that are active in open innovation in both giving and receiving ideas–those which practiced both “outside-in” and “inside-out” innovation– achieve higher rates of innovation and of revenue growth.

The Week on the Library’s Blog: Popping-up again, in Polish!
The Week on the Library’s Blog: Popping-up again, in Polish!:
Our theme this week was EU-US. Just in time for President Obama’s visit to Europe and the G8 Summit. For an overview of the issues see our post on EU-US relations: An EU-US topic so hot it’s sizzling is PRISM-FISA. To make sure you know what it’s all about, check out our keysource. On Wednesday we posted on the all important question of agriculture in the Trans-Atlantic Trade & Investment Partnership. Our key source is your guide to information on all the issues. We posted a trade topic closer to home with a keysource to help you find information on the reform of the EU community trade mark.
We looked at some social issues this week, including posting a briefing on violence against women and an evaluation of the 2007-2012 EU strategy on health and safety at work.

You must be getting the idea by now: we are always trying out new things at the EP Library. This week we thought we’d show off the information we have available for Polish MEPs with a special “Polish Pop-up”. Thanks to our Polish clients who came along to meet us.

And talking about topics with a “buzz”, we also published a briefing on the worrying situation of European bees, and the very worrying consequences for agriculture if they disappear altogether.

Perhaps you are wondering what will happen now that the European Ombudsman, Nikiforos Diamandouros has announced his retirement in the very near future? Find out with our keysource on this important role for the institutions.
And, something a little more light-hearted – we celebrated this blog’s first birthday with cava and cake. Our statistics show that you like our blog too (see our post), and it’s become an essential means to share EP Library information with you. It’s been a fun year, it seems like at the Library we all thrive on deadlines and buzz. Looking forward to another year just like it! Only better…
Finally, talking of getting older, we published a briefing on a really hot topic all over Europe: the question of how to care for our elderly, and how to finance that care. Did you know that between now and 2060 the number of people over 80 in Europe is expected to triple, from 23 to 62 million. Linked to this issue, we also posted a useful key source on the Social Investment Package – all the sources you need on understanding how Europe intends to address its demographic challenges.

Library of the European Parliament's Blog: Less slides, more fun: A tour through new presentation tools
Library of the European Parliament's Blog: Less slides, more fun: A tour through new presentation tools: I remember when PowerPoint appeared on the screen in the mid-nineties. Right from the start it caused a revolution. Flipcharts, boards and markers were banned from meeting rooms. Wild animations, blazing backgrounds, sophisticated charts – a ne...
